2020 has provided many challenges to our completeing our mission. We have worked hard to hire a full time Disaster Case Manager and to compile the necessary information packet to do case intakes. We are in the process of transferring cases from Endeavor Case Management who are no longer accepting new referrals to the Disaster Recovery Group of Duplin County. Like the rest of the world our work has largely effected by Covid-19 and all of the new regulations regarding the pandemic. We are having to work from home, by phone, emails and virtual meetings. We are currently unable to meet face-to-face with our clients to pick up documentation and receive signatures. Even with the new restraints we have been able to help 9 families with furniture and appliances, and one family with construction materials since they are providing their own labor. Our volunteer labor is at a stand still because of the "stay at home" policy thus putting our work schedule behind. As soon as the area is "opened" back up we are ready to begin helping people to complete recovering. There are about 400 familes that remain in insecure housing and living condition in Duplin County.
During this time of challenge our focus has shifted as has that of the entire country to elder care and nutrition for children. While we are working along these lines also we have not forgotten our Hurricane Florence survivors. We are ready with funding and resources to resume our mission of providing those in our community impacted by the hurricane disaster, with safe, secure and sanitary homes. We are still and forever - DUPLIN STRONG!
