This project will provide a permanent roof, decorating and furnishing, for four classrooms at the Brightlingsea Academy. This will enable an additional 120 children to attend school to receive education and two meals per day. Their parents will then be able to attend work and provide a better life for their families.
In 2019 funding was raised for the building of four desperately needed primary school classrooms but there wasn't enough money to complete the work so there is no roof. At present the classrooms are left exposed to heavy rainfall, especially during Ghana's rainy season which will strike again from July. It is hoped to obtain the funds before this time to safeguard the classrooms. Money is available through other sponsorship and grants for the education and feeding of the additional students.
The project will enable the already-built 4 classrooms to be put into use safely. It will allow 120 children to use the four classrooms and give the opportunity to increase school places for 30 new children each year. The classrooms are currently unprotected from the Ghanaian rain which can be torrential and constant during the rainy season.
The school currently serves 220 children. There is a long waiting list for places. The project will provide for 120 additional children to attend school, which will enable them to be educated whilst receiving two meals per day. Parents will then be able to work which will provide money to improve their families' lives, health and well-being.
