Thank you for your onoing support for our Rainwater Harvesting project.
The project aims to address water security issues in the District of Dawasamu. We have been able to increase the overall water storage capacity in many villages across several districts in Fiji, including the Island of Moturiki.
We are currently working with the District of Dawasamu and to date have installed 12 rainwater harvesting systems.
The project objectives are to :
- Support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management.
- Compare the population to the existing availability of water and capacity for storing water and use data collated to calculate and compare the capacity deficits.
- Examine the state of existing infrastructure to determine where repairs are needed.
- Install a rainwater harvesting system.
- Educate about sanitation and hygiene practices through workshops and invest in sustainable long-term infrastructure.
We are looking forward to restarting work with with community members and working towards the objectives we have set with the headman from each village.
We are currently visiting villages to assess what rainwater harvesting may be needed, once assessments are completed we can use the information to install the tanks in villages whose needs are the greatest.
We look forward to keeping you up to date with the progress of this project and thank you for your ongoing support.
