Progress Report: 1000 Nigerian Children, 1 Goal: Quality Education.

By Olayinka Oyenekan | Development & Partnership Coordinator

Teach For Nigeria launched the project “1000 Nigerian Children, 1 Goal: Quality Education” to address the persistent challenge of educational inequity in underserved public schools across Nigeria. The initiative focuses on improving learning outcomes for children in low-income communities in Lagos and Ogun States.

Our model centers on recruiting, training, and supporting young Nigerian graduates who commit to teaching for two years in underserved schools. These Fellows deliver quality instruction while advocating for equitable access to education within the communities they serve.

Thanks to the generous support received so far, we have strengthened the recruitment and training of our Fellows. In our most recent cohort, we successfully recruited over 600 Fellows, many of whom are now actively serving in classrooms and supporting students’ academic growth. Their work ensures that foundational literacy, numeracy, STEM, the arts, and gender-responsive education are effectively taught and integrated into daily learning. In addition, collaboration with partner organizations has further enhanced our ability to deliver quality education in these communities.

This GlobalGiving campaign, a $20,000 fundraising effort, directly supports the provision of fellows' training and classroom resources that are essential to the success of over 1,000 children in Lagos and Ogun States.

Expected Project Outputs

  • 1,020 pupils reached across 20 underserved schools

  • 30 Teach For Nigeria Fellows deployed, trained in inclusive and learner-centered teaching practices

  • 5 stakeholder and parental engagement sessions conducted to strengthen community involvement in education

  • Baseline and midline assessments completed to track and measure improvements in learning outcomes

  • $20,000 deployed to supply teaching aids, books, and training materials

This fund is already creating meaningful change. It demonstrates what is possible when young leaders, communities, and donors come together to transform education. With continued support, Teach For Nigeria hopes to expand this model and reach even more children nationwide, ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to the quality education they deserve.
