1000 Nigerian Children, 1 Goal: Quality Education.

By Samuel Okpolagha Abel | Development & Partnership Coordinator

Background

In response to Nigeria’s growing educational inequality, Teach For Nigeria launched the project “1000 Nigerian Children, 1 Goal: Quality Education” to improve foundational learning outcomes among pupils in underserved public schools. The project targets children in low-income communities across Lagos, Ogun, and Kaduna States, leveraging the expertise of TFN Fellows to deliver inclusive and high-impact classroom instruction.

  • To date, TFN has placed more than 3,000 fellows in more than 500 schools.
  • increased numeracy and literacy skills of pupils from 68% to 83% on average.
  • Trained school leaders and pupils to develop deep learning skills.
  • improved STEM learning participation among students

A $20,000 fundraising campaign to support this initiative, enabling the provision of learning resources, training, and direct classroom support to over 1,000 children.

Project Goal

To enhance the quality of education for 1,000 underserved Nigerian children by improving literacy and numeracy skills through teacher leadership, community engagement, and learner-centered instruction.

Expected Outputs

  • 1,020 pupils reached across 20 underserved schools.
  • 24 TFN Fellows deployed, trained in inclusive and learner-centered teaching.
  • 5 Stakeholder-parental engagement sessions conducted.
  • Baseline and midline assessments completed to track learning outcomes.
  • $20,000 utilized to provide teaching aids, books, and training materials.

Key Outcomes

  • 65% average improvement in literacy scores (midline results).
  • 11.5% increase in school attendance across intervention schools.
  • Increased community involvement in education through volunteer support and school-led initiatives.
  • Enhanced capacity of local teachers through peer mentorship by TFN Fellows.
  • Positive learner feedback, including pupils who moved from low-readers to reading higher within four months.

This fund will go a long way in providing possibilities when young leaders, communities, and donors unite to transform education. With continued support, Teach For Nigeria aims to expand this model and reach even more children across Nigeria.

Thank you for your kind support.
