Dear friends and supporters,
Thank you so much for your generous gifts supporting the Bunyore translation of "Where There Is No Doctor." I am writing to let you know that we are wrapping up this campaign so that we can send the funds to the Kabala Women's Center, where they will be used to print books and train health workers. Thanks to you, these health workers now have a reliable, low-literacy resource that they can use to help their villages.
Although the Kabala Women's Center does not have a website, you can track the progress of the book on the Bunyore page on Hesperian's website, here: http://hesperian.org/books-and-resources/resources-in-bunyore
After the book has been printed, it will be made available online via Hesperian's website, so check back to see how things are coming along!

Dear supporters,
Thank you so much for your generous support of the Kabala Women's Center. Angela and her team send their best, and thank you for what you have been able to contribute so far!
We will be wrapping up this campaign on August 22nd, and will send a full report on the impact and distribution of the books at that time. In the mean time, we wanted to let you know that now is the time to share the campaign, if you know anyone who might be interested--all gifts from now until the 22nd will be matched dollar-for-dollar, and every dollar given will go toward printing costs.
Achieving the $2,000 match will complete the Kabala Women's Center's goal and make "Where There Is No Doctor" in Bunyore a reality! Even if the campaign falls short, KWC will print as many books as they can with what they have raised. Based on a survey by the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, every copy of "Where There Is No Doctor" impacts an average of forty people--and in the hands of determined health providers like Angela, it will impact even more. Your gift is making a difference--thank you!

How do Books Help?

The view from the ground is often the best way to understand why health information is vitally important to a community. Angela Adhiambo, the director of the Kabala Women’s Center, describes their situation this way:
“Having Hesperian’s book “Where There is No Doctor” in Bunyore will allow more people to have health knowledge for prevention and treatment. The translation will be mainly used by community health workers, but because Hesperian books are written for low literacy villagers, people who are not highly educated can use them as well. This allows the community to share knowledge on health issues and improve their lives.”
Any money raised by this campaign will make these books a reality. Each book, in turn, will support an average of 40 people in protecting their environment and community health. We hope you will share this campaign, and help KWC meet their goal!
