Hi Everyone,
As I write this report I am filled with gratitude for all the support we've received from donors, sponsors, volunteers, staff and friends of Roko 20 Academy. Our work providing the community’s most disadvantaged children with care, a full-time education and various extracurricular activities has earned us trust from the community, outside organizations, and donors.
Chess Team
We are thrilled to announce the successful launch of the Chess Club at Roko 20 Academy this past June. In just a few short months, our dedicated team of 8 pupils has shown remarkable progress and passion for the game. Their hard work has already borne fruit, as they have competed in three challenging tournaments and proudly brought home four gold medals. We are even more excited to share that all of our talented members have qualified for the prestigious 5-day National Level Tournament, set to begin on August 2nd. We couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments. We look forward to seeing them represent our Academy and continue their winning streak on a national stage. Stay tuned for more updates and join us in cheering for our young chess champions!
Nurturing talent
I want to highlight the inspiring story of one of our Grade 7 learners who has demonstrated remarkable self-motivation and talent. Using a guitar donated by a generous volunteer and guided by YouTube tutorials, he taught himself to play and quickly fell in love with music. His dedication led him to participate in various music festivals, where he achieved notable success at both sub-county and county levels. His growing reputation in the community even earned him an invitation to perform at a local social event. This young musician’s journey is a testament to his hard work and the support of our vibrant community.
Community Support
Mechanic Course
We supported one of our sponsored pupils who faced challenges in school and chose to pursue a different path. We enrolled him on a Mechanic Course after leaving school and he has excelled in his studies. Today, he is thriving independently, covering his own rent, supporting himself, and providing for his two younger brothers. His success is a testament to his resilience and the impact of our community’s support.
New Tailoring Business
Thanks to our French Associates, we granted a single parent in our community funds to start a tailoring business. She now makes and repairs school uniforms and sells hot food and vegetables at the local market. Soon, she will be able to fund her children’s education independently.
Kule Foundation
Earlier this month, the Kule Foundation, a non-profit organization registered in Kenya and Canada, brought a group of young students to engage with our pupils. They enhanced skills in computer use, journal writing, storytelling, origami, and singing, while also providing donations of maize, beans, storybooks, and writing materials. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this wonderful initiative.
Lastly just to mention our gratitude for all the donations, suport and resources received from various groups and individuals this year. Without this we could not continue our work.
Big thanks to you all.
