Roko 20 Academy is a primary school situated in Kambirwa, rural Kenya. AIDs orphans and the very poor are excluded from school because of non-payment of 'charges'. Many families are living in poverty and struggling to feed their children. Elderly grandmothers are left to raise young grandchildren alone. Roko 20 provides children with a free education, clothes, food and and basic healthcare. We also assist families out of poverty with small income generating projects to raise hope and income
Poverty, access to clean water, healthy food, medical care and proper education for the communities outside of Murang'a has its most extreme effects on the welfare of children. The area is dry and food is scarce. Children are orphaned and left in the care of elderly grandparents. Parents who are without work are struggling to feed their children and provide proper healthcare. Education is supposed to be free but many children are excluded from school as unaffordable 'charges' are imposed.
Roko 20 will provide a free education, clothing, 3 meals a day, basic healthcare and stationeries to pupils whose basic needs are neglected. We will assist our sponsored pupils' parents/guardians out of poverty with small self-sustaining income generating projects. By donating goats, hens, cockerels and rabbits and giving out small loans to start-up businesses we will enable these families to become independent and provide for their own families' needs.
Our long term goal is to assist parents and guardians to become financially independent eventually coming off the sponsorship programme and making way for others to join. Parents will regain dignity breaking the cycle of poverty and their children will aspire to succeed also. Siblings of our sponsored pupils will benefit from better health and education as parents can afford to keep them in class. Members of the community who are in employment will help strengthen the local economy.
