This project aims to empower underserved students through hands-on STEM education and life skills that will prepare them for gainful employment and lifelong self-sufficiency. Your donation will give students access to a free after-school program that provides mentoring and resources for real-life applications of STEM not in the curriculum. They will gain essential skills in technology, innovation and creative problem-solving for future careers in a number of growing, in-demand fields.
Low representation of students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education and careers has resulted in a loss of human capital in the Nigerian technology workforce and inability to compete in the global economy. This low STEM representation is prevalent among low-income students in public schools, who typically lack access to STEM basics i.e. modern laboratories, desktop or laptop computers and the Internet and are excluded from opportunities to work and live above poverty.
This project will provide equitable opportunities for underserved students through a free STEM-educational program that offers access to STEM resources and a series of hands-on workshops ranging from computer programming to robotics. Designed to show the real-life applications of STEM, activities will spark the interest of students at an early age and result in higher STEM representation. Low-income students wil acquire essential skills for global competitiveness and advance the Nigerian economy
The long term goals are to enhance the quality of life for underserved youths who would otherwise be excluded from future opportunities for gainful employment; develop the future technology workforce who have the potential of growing Nigeria's industrial and technology sectors, and advance the nation's economy to become among the top 20 economies by 2020.
