In Rivers State, too many girls grow up without access to computers, leaving their dreams out of reach. Blessing, a 14-year-old who wants to be an engineer, can't practice the skills she needs because her school has no working devices. We want to change that. Through after-school clubs, laptops, internet, and mentorship, 200 girls will learn coding, robotics, and digital skills - gaining the confidence and opportunities to build brighter futures.
In Nigeria, over 70% of public schools lack ICT labs, and fewer than 30% of students have basic computer skills. In Rivers State, hundreds of pupils often share one outdated computer, and many labs sit unused. Girls face even greater barriers due to cultural norms, limited STEM exposure, and few role models, leaving them far behind peers in private schools. Without urgent action, thousands risk exclusion from the digital future that could lift them and their communities.
This project addresses these barriers by combining technology access, hands-on training, mentorship, and life skills development. It aims to train 200 girls from under-resourced schools in Rivers State. The program will be delivered through after-school clubs, with 25-30 girls per cohort over an 8-week cycle. The curriculum covers coding (Scratch and basic Python). Participants will benefit from structured mentorship and conclude each cycle with a Demo Day Showcase to highlight their learning.
Graduates will pursue higher education, careers, or entrepreneurship in technology. Inspire peers and serve as local role models. Mentor others through alumni clubs, thereby expanding reach. Contribute to closing the gender gap in digital skills across Rivers State. Each girl trained creates a ripple effect that impacts dozens more, shaping an inclusive, tech-driven future.
