Learning English for a better future!

English is widely acknowledged to be the international language, and remains the language of choice in the fields of economics, I.T. and science.  As the most common spoken language around the world, one out of five people can speak or at least understand English.  When you master English, the world is in your hands! This is why we encourage the youth in Cipanas, the area where YUM serves, to learn and speak English.

There were 64 students enrolled in the English class at YUM VTC in the last term. Our two dedicated tutors have helped the classes run well.  Students learn English in a number of interactive ways, such as role play, games, reading poetry, and so on. This term, the students had an opportunity to practice their English with students from United World College South East Asia (UWCSEA).  The students were very excited to have this opportunity.

“I learn English because I want to be able to communicate.  My dream is to get a job at a multinational company. The YUM Library has many interesting books in English. Usually after the course, I go to the library to borrow some English books. It is amazing knowing so many new things by reading those English books.” Hijri, High School student

“It was an unforgettable experience having a conversation with a foreigner. At the beginning I was very shy and not confident to practice my English, but Mr. Yudhi (tutor) always encourages me and the other students to speak. He said that it is not a problem if we pronounce a word wrong, it is part of the learning process”. Andika, High School students

Thanks to the kind support of all our GlobalGiving donors, YUM can continue running the English Classes for the youth in Cipanas.  We wish to build confidence in every participant and increase their skills to support them in having a better future. Help us spread the word: by donating just $10 every month, more students like Hijri and Andika can enroll in the English class for free!
