Partnership Progress with Uradi

Lunch program Maize and beans with porridge
Lunch program Maize and beans with porridge

January in Kenya brought the start of a new school year. In Kenya there are three school terms starting in January and ending in November with the KCPE exams that students take each primary school year. The start of the school year means that we have delivered the grain needed for this term to each of the 19 partner primary schools. Through those 19 schools we support 3400 orphaned and vulnerable children with school lunch and 100 child-headed home food support.

When we made our visit to Uradi at the end of the year we found a welcomed suprise. Uradi Primary school was added in 2019. As the news of our partnership grew, so did the enrollment at the school. We have seen this response in many of our partner schools.

Uradi's response to the lunch program is an amazing breakthrough. By the end of the first year, they garnered additional food donations and support so that they can feed the entire school. Usually what happens is the children not enrolled in Umoja go home for lunch and the Umoja children stay at school for lunch with the maize and beans that we provide. Uradi parents and supporters added porridge made from sorghum flour. In the pictures you can see each child gets a cup of porridge and a bowl of maize and beens.

Uradi saw the impact school lunch made on the Umoja children and wanted to expand that impact to the entire school. We are hopeful the performance and success rise exponentially at this primary school.

We had 100 requests for additional schools to add to our program, however, financially we are unable to add any new schools at this time. Your continued support allows us to fund support for these 19.

Asante Sana.
