Rachel has been communicating with one of our case managers for several months. She and her son Harland are being abused by Rachel's husband in Switzerland and she wants to return home for safety and stop the abuse. Because of the Hague Connvention on International Child Abduction we have had to gather as much evidence of abuse as possible to help Rachel keep Harland safe back in the USA when she comes home for the holidays. We connected her with an International Family Law Attorney and have been supporting her through the safety planning process.
Without donations like yours battered American women and children like Rachel & Harland would not have access to Pathways' case managers and the critical resouces that can help achieve thieir safety and security back home. Thank you!
Rita called us earlier this year desperately needing to escape abuse in Germany with her son Quentin. Her abuser had hidden Quentin's American passport and she needed our help advocating to the American Embassy to issue a new passport for Quentin. Rita's abuser had threatened to kill her and Quentin multiple times and Rita was certain their lives were at risk.
Over the period of several weeks we were able to secure another passport for Quentin and help get them home to the USA.
Because of donations like yours, we are able to provide critical services to battered American women and their children overseas like Rita & Quentin.
Thank you so much from Team Pathways!
Tamara called us from Thailand earlier this year. She had been living in Thailand with her husband and son Owen for six months. When her husband got an overseas assignment she was hesitant to go. He had been verbally abusive and sometimes she was afraid of him. Her husband assured her Thailand would be a new start for their marriage and family.
The first couple of months in Thailand seemed fine, but then her husband started insulting her again, calling her names and making phyical threats. When Tamara told him she wanted to go back home to the USA, he hid Owen's passport and told her he would cancel her dependence visa if she left.
We worked with Tamara on a safety plan and an escape plan. Over time Tamara was able to find Owen's passport. Because of donors like you we were able to secure a taxi and airline tickets to get Tamara & Owen home while her husband was at work.
They are now back home in the USA happy and safe! Thank you!
When Noni called us last month from New Zealand she was afraid for her life and the life of her son James.
Her husband had been violent for some time but now he began telling her how he was going to kill her and James and bury them so no one would ever find them. Noni was desperate to get home to the USA.
One of our case managers worked carefully with Noni on a safe escape plan. Luckily, Noni had access to their American passports that were locked in a safe. Her husband had changed the safe's code but Noni was able to figure it out.
Through a carefully executed plan, Noni and James were able to get out of the house, to the airport and on a flight home without her husband suspecting anything.
Todsy they are safe in a domestic violence shelter in the USA and we are working with Noni on longer term planning.
It is because of donors like you we are able to provide life-saving services to battered American mothers and their children abroad. Thank you!
Here at Pathways To Safety International we can't believe how quickly this year has gone by. We have provided critical, and often live-saving services, to a record number of battered American women & children overseas. While the 2018 stats won't be completed until January 2019, we expect an increase of 20% more survivors served in 2018 compared to 2017.
In addition, we are experiencing even more complicated multi-jurisdictional cases requiring intensive case management, more resources and more cash assistance to battered American mothers and their children sufering in foreign countries.
One of the areas we particularly need help with is emergency hotel rooms for victims fleeing violence while we work with them to get them to safety.
We created a micro-project for this purpose. https://www.globalgiving.org/microprojects/emergency-hotel-rooms-for-victims-escaping-violenc/
We hope you will consider giving the gift of safety to battered American mothers so they can keep their children safe this holiday season.
Thank you from the Pathways team!
