Help Rescue 500 Battered Women And Their Children

In January we were able to get Michelle and her daughter Kennedy away from Michelle's abusive husband in Germany and back to the USA. We got her into shelter, and because of you, we were able to pay the initial deposit to get Michelle and Kennedy into their own apartment. After only one week in the apartment, Michelle got a job! Here is a message from Michelle.

"Thank you for everything you have done for us. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and freeze in fear. Then I remember we are home and not in Germany anymore. Kennedy is doing great! She misses her friends in Germany but is being spoiled by my mom and dad. She loves spending time with her Grandparents! We are going to be okay now."

We have been able to help thousands of battered American mothers and their children because of donations like yours.

When River called us this past summer from Morocco, she was desperate to get Jackson home to the USA, away from the terrible abuse of her husband. We spent months safety planning with River including getting out of the home, to the American Embassy, getting emergency passports and finally the flights home.

We let River know that it is because of donations through Global Giving we were able to bring her and Jackson home to safety.

River called and told us the following through her tears: "Please tell everyone who helped me thank you. I feel like I am in a dream, a good one, not the nightmare we have been living with for so long."

Jackson thinks its cold in the USA, but he is happy to be home, safe with is mom!

Since the Ray Rice elevator video was released, conversations, media reports and victims voices about domestic violence have resounced globally. Every day, because of your support, long before the current focus on domestic violence, we have been able to help battered American mothers and their children come home. We sincerely appreciation your donations which helped us help Christine.

Christine and here three daughters were being abused by Christine's husband in Egypt.They went to Egypt in the summer of 2012 for what Christine thought was a vacation. Once they arrived in Egypt, her husband took their passports and locked them in his parent's home. He flew back to the US, put all of their belongings in storage, and rented out their house. Christine and the girls were literally held prisoners, abused and isolated. Her daughters went to school but only with a driver, who then stayed at the school making sure the girls did not leave.

Christine's mother contacted us in July in desperation. Christine managed to call her mother collect from the housemaid's cell phone.Through a contact in Egypt, we were able to sneak a pre-paid cell phone into one of her daughter's backpacks at school so Christine could communicate with us. After months of planning, we were able to get Christine and her three daughters home safely to the US. They are living in a domestic violence shelter and we are helping them with longer term housing. They have a lot of healing to do, but they are free of abuse because of donations like yours.

Christine and her daughters are just one family. and we help hundreds every year. Thank you for caring and supporting ourmission. The AODVC team.

One year after Mia was married, her husband was given a fabulous job opportunity in Ireland. Soon after they moved to Ireland she found out she was pregnant. Her husband became moodier and moodier, screaming and hitting the wall, then Mia. When Mia told her husband she wanted to go home to her mother in the USA and have the baby, he pushed her to the ground then locked her inside the house. She was terrified the force of the fall hurt her baby, but luckily, it didn't. Mia had the baby in Ireland. She throught the abuse would stop once Jacob was born. It didn't. In desperation, Mia told Jacob's doctor and the doctor advised Mia call AODVC.

That first phone call was the beginning of a new life for Mia and Jacob. Because of donations like yours, Mia is home with Jacob and living with her mother in the USA. They are happy and safe.

Here is a note from Mia: "What I thought would be the most wonderful experience of my life turned into a nightmare. Thank God for the Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center! I didn't want Jacob growing up to think it was okay to hit a woman. I think you may have saved my life."

After we were able to get Rachel and her two sons, Jordan and Cole, back to the USA after years of abuse, they needed a safe place to stay. They went into a domestic violence shelter temporarily. This weekend they will move into a two bedroom apartment because donations to this project paid for Rachel's first month rent. A local nonprofit provided bunk beds for Jordan and Cole, a couch and some household items. Here is a note from Rachel:

"This is going to be the best Mother's Day present ever! The boys are so happy. It is our first apartment together where we won't have to be afraid. I can read them bedtime stories, and laugh and play and be normal.. I will never again have to hear my boys ask, "Mommy, why does daddy make bruises? I am crying as I am writing this, not because I am sad, but because I am so happy. I wouldn't have been able to do this without you. Thank you from all of us!"
