Access to safe drinking water remains a serious challenge for vulnerable families in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. Many communities continue to face difficult choices when searching for water, with women and children often carrying the greatest burden. Long journeys to collect water take time away from school, work, and family life, while unsafe water can expose households to serious waterborne illnesses. Our project aims to respond to this urgent need by establishing five solar-powered boreholes in key neighborhoods of Goma, each designed to serve more than 2,000 people.
The project is currently in its preparation and resource-mobilization phase. We are working to identify trainers, learners, local stakeholders, and the practical conditions needed to implement the project responsibly and sustainably. Our overall fundraising goal is USD 75,000, and USD 27 has been raised so far. Every contribution, however small, represents an important first step toward bringing safe water closer to thousands of people. Through our collaboration with GlobalGiving, this locally driven initiative now has an opportunity to reach supporters around the world who believe that access to clean water is a fundamental part of health, dignity, and human development.
We sincerely thank GlobalGiving and every donor who has already supported this initiative and helped us take the first steps toward our goal. We now invite individuals, organizations, foundations, and friends of Goma to stand with these communities. Your support can help transform hours spent searching for water into time for school, work, family, and opportunity. Together, we can help make clean water accessible to thousands of people and create a lasting ripple effect of health, dignity, resilience, and hope for future generations.
