Provide Clean Water for 1000 People in South Kivu

Contexte du projet

Au Sud-Kivu, en République démocratique du Congo, plus de 1 000 personnes vivant en zone rurale souffrent d’un manque d’eau potable. Les points d’eau existants sont souvent négligés ou mal entretenus, exposant la population à des maladies hydriques telles que le choléra, la dysenterie et la typhoïde. Ce manque d’accès à l’eau potable a des répercussions directes sur la santé publique et le bien-être des communautés locales.

Objectifs du projet

Ce projet vise à :

• Fournir de l'eau potable saine et propre à 1 000 personnes.
• Créer de nouveaux points d'eau et entretenir les sources existantes.
• Sensibiliser la communauté aux bonnes pratiques d'hygiène pour prévenir les maladies.
• Développer les compétences locales pour assurer la durabilité des infrastructures hydrauliques.
• Budget total : 9 500 USD
• Fonds déjà collectés : 35 USD grâce à la collaboration avec GlobalGiving
• Phase actuelle : identification des formateurs et des apprenants
• Début prévu : novembre 2025

Sustainable Access to Clean Water in South Kivu1. General Context

In many rural areas of South Kivu, access to clean water remains a major challenge. More than a thousand people still depend on unsafe and distant water sources that are poorly maintained. This situation exposes families to waterborne illnesses such as cholera, dysentery, and typhoid fever, which continue to weaken already vulnerable communities.

2. Problem Statement

Most existing water points are old, damaged, or insufficient. Households collect water from rivers or open sources that are highly contaminated. The lack of reliable infrastructure and local skills in water management increases the health risks.
In this context, rural communities urgently need sustainable solutions that ensure continuous access to safe drinking water.

3. Project Objective

The project aims to build water catchment and supply systems to provide safe, clean drinking water for at least 1,000 people across several villages in South Kivu.
The main objectives are:

• Establish durable water catchment structures.
• Significantly reduce waterborne diseases.
• Strengthen local skills in managing and maintaining water systems.
• Improve the overall quality of life and health resilience of the population.

4. Total Budget

The overall cost of the project is estimated at USD 9,500.
With our partnership through GlobalGiving, we have already raised USD 37, an encouraging first step that brings us closer to our goal.

5. Project Progress

• The identification of trainers and participants is currently underway.
• Initial field assessments have confirmed the urgency of intervention.
