Since our last update, the Covid situation in Thailand has gotten much worse with over 20,000 cases per day. Even though there are many restrictions, our team has been able to continue distributing milk, diapers, food, and other items to families with young children and little to no household income at this time. We depend on our network of healthcare professionals coming into the main city to take some of these supplies to homes where we cannot go at the moment. For those that live in the city, we can still schedule supply pickups and continue to work in partnership with the government to ensure the supplies are getting to those most in need. We have heard of many families feeding their babies condensed milk mixed with water to try and save money so we are thankful that we've been able to get them a healthier source of nutrition for their babies.

Thank you for continuing to support our program to help these families in need during Covid. 100% of all donations to this program are going directly to purchasing supplies for these families. All administrative expenses supporting this initiative are being covered by a separate budget. Thank you so much for your generosity in recent months!

As I type this current update about the formula program, we are currently entering our 3rd and most serious COVID wave to date. How this will end up affecting employment of people in our area is unkwnown. Thailand was about ready to open its doors to more tourism which would allow many local people to return to work, but that looks unlikely now. We are hopeful that future vaccinations will eventually allow Thailand to open again to tourism and allow production to return to normal levels in manufacturing. Until then, we will continue working with our health network to locate COVID-impacted families in need of formula and we will be following up with some of those we haven't heard from in awhile to make sure they are able to provide for their families. 100% of all donations to this program are going directly to purchasing infant formula and food for these families. Over the last couple months our team has continued organizing formula deliveries to families all over our region. Thankfully the number of requests has been going down as many people have been able to return to work in Bangkok or the tourist areas where they usually receive an income. One recent visit we made was to twin boys who live with their grandparents after their parents divorced and abandoned them. Once again our health network in Ubon has been a huge help in identifying struggling families like this one.

Last week, Thailand saw its first COVID outbreak since March and the largest outbreak yet. The government is talking about shutting down the economy again although this time they are doing it in increments to hopefully have less negative economic impact. We are still receiving formula requests through our network so if you'd like to continue supporting the formula program, please help us finish our $20,000 goal. Thank you!

Over the last couple months our team has been busy organizing formula deliveries to families all over our region. Since we were still under pandemic restrictions, we had to ask special permission to run this program from the government. Not only did we receive permission, but they also promoted it and helped us filter the applicants so the families who needed formula the most would receive it. The governor officially launched our program and we even had a member of the Prime Minister's Cabinet stop by to promote our program while he was in the province on other business.

The network of health workers we've developed over the years has also proved to be a huge benefit to this program. They work in some of the more remote areas and know families in need that we never would have found on our own. Thanks to this campaign and local donations, so far we've provided at least one month of formula to about 300 families! Using other funding we've received outside of this program, we've also been able to deliver masks and food to many of these families who are temporarily without employment due to the pandemic.

We are still receiving formula requests through our network so if you'd like to continue supporting the formula program, please help us finish our $20,000 goal. Thank you!

Visiting the first family in our update.
Visiting the first family in our update.

We've started making deliveries of baby formula and wanted to share a couple real stories from the kind of families we are helping. One of our first visits was to a family with two children and a baby on the way. The father was electrocuted while working on power lines, lost the ability to use his hand properly, and can’t work indefinitely. The mother sells blended drinks but with markets closed its been tough to find any income. Their daughter can’t speak or walk and suffers from seizures for unknown reasons despite multiple brain scans. The mother was in tears of thankfulness as we left their home.

Another single mother me visited works for a sunflower farm that provides ingredients to one of Thailand’s most famous dishes, papaya salad. They can still sell their product to the large retail stores but the lack of open restaurants has taken away one of their primary sources of demand. To try and survive yet retain staff, the farm cut all hours down by about 60%. While she’s thankful to still have some income, it’s not enough for mom, grandma and 4 kids in the house. Her one year old son has multiple health issues and finally left the hospital in January 2020 after a year-long stay. Grandma takes care of the kids while she works. The milk and extra food we gave them will fill the gap until the mother is able to work at the farm full time again.

Thank you for helping us "fill the gap!"
