Nong Joe

The Light Center’s milk program not only provides infant formula to struggling families but also to children like Nong Joe (Not his real name) in the attached picture. Nong Joe is the 3rd child in his family. His father works doing hard labor for the state railroad, and his mother delivers vegetables to the early morning markets. He's a little over 2 years old but only weighs 6 kilograms. He was born 2 months premature and has had problems with his intestines since birth as food doesn’t digest properly. This has caused other problems, such as insufficient nutrient intake, low blood sugar, and an enlarged stomach that requires frequent hospitalization.
When his mother can take him to the hospital for government-funded care, they can treat him temporarily, but she often can’t afford the cost of gas to get to the hospital or buy the special milk and food the hospital recommends he eat. Just by providing the occasional doctor-recommended milk and food, Nong Joe is already getting healthier. Thank you for helping support children like Nong Joe!
