This project will supply the disaster stricken community of Eastern Oklahoma with 50,000 cans of clean drinking water through a partnership with the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma . The communities we serve are already overlooked and when disaster strikes, the struggles of obtaining critical necessities like clean drinking water are compounded by the stress and chaos.
After an emergency, especially after flooding, drinking water may not be available or safe to drink. Floods and other disasters can contaminate wells and other drinking water distributors. Flood waters can contaminate well water with farming waste, human sewage, chemicals, and other contaminants which can lead to illness when used for drinking, bathing, and other hygiene activities.
After a disaster, Can'd Aid is able to act quickly, just days after a disaster, to get drinking water to communities in need, working with local partners to asses greatest needs and vulnerable population areas. The funding raised now will enable Can'd Aid to be poised and ready for the next call for help. To date Can'd Aid has supplied 1.6 million cans of clean drinking water to communities in need post disaster.
A truckload of 50,000 cans of clean drinking water is an essential component to recovery after a disaster. By providing safe drinking water, families are able to stay healthy and hydrated throughout the recovery process.
