In Rincon del Mar, we ramped up the mangrove protection program ‘Manglar de mi Corazón’ by training four new team members and collaborating with La Biblioteca Maria Mulata to implement the educational program, Amigo del Manglar. Additionally, we incorporated data from the Pelagic Data Fishing Tracking Project into the data collection for conservation program.
In December, we articulated our project with Mosaicos de Conservación y Uso Sostenible, a project that is being implemented by the FAO under a larger environmental initiative known as Conexión BioCaribe overseen by the Sistema Regional de Áreas Protegidas del Caribe colombiano (SIRAP). Mosaicos is a Caribbean-wide program conservation program that seeks to combine at-risk ecosystems across the Colombian Caribbean, and reconnect and strengthen ecosystems. You can read the most recent publication on this project here and stay up-to-date with the project’s advancements directly through their websites at www.fao.org/colombia and www.sirapcaribe.org.
The FAO is now monitoring the mangrove data and implementing the technical aspects of Manglar de mi Corazon under the Mosaicos project, and we continue to support the Library Maria Mulata. Stay tuned for more upcoming initiatives with Maria Mulata in Rincon del Mar! In the meantime, check out their website and Facebook page.
