Our project “Mangroves of my Heart” is about protecting the coastal mangrove forest and the local livelihood. We’re not only working on the protection and restoring of the 541 hectares of mangrove forest but also supporting the local fisheries with the help of Pelagic Data Systems as of April of 2018.
This month, we started a new program called “Friends of the Mangroves” in alliance with the Corporation Mariamulata from Rincón del Mar. The Corporation Mariamulata is the community library that, over more than twelve years of uninterrupted work, is exploring practices to build a more harmonious, dignified and fair society through education and cultural preservation.
“Friends of the Mangroves” is a communications and education program designed to teach the community about the importance of the mangroves, how to protect them and also to communicate project progress. The program integrates active learning in the library, in peoples homes, taking field trips to learn about the mangroves and the showing of a series of documentaries that were made by Mariamulata about the mangroves in Rincón del Mar.
There is a lot happening, and we are grateful for your support for this project! If you would like to support our work in Rincón del Mar, please consider become a monthly donor through Global Giving.
