During the last three months, continuous patrol operations aboard the Silky have remained active in the Santuario de Fauna y Flora Malpelo, maintaining constant surveillance and protection presence throughout the area.
Illegal fishing activity within the immediate protected zone around the island and pinnacles has remained at zero during this reporting period. Daily patrol circuits and continuous presence continue being the strongest deterrent against illegal fishing activities targeting sharks and vulnerable marine species.
The team has also continued performing mooring inspections, maintenance maneuvers, and operational support activities necessary to maintain safe and environmentally responsible operations in this remote marine protected area.
Thanks to the support of donors, new release and rescue equipment has also been acquired, strengthening our capacity to safely remove and release marine wildlife affected by illegal fishing gear and ghost fishing threats.
We deeply thank all donors and supporters whose contributions make this continuous protection effort possible every day in Malpelo.
