Protect 150 Children from Early Marriage in Ghana

Protect 150 Children from Early Marriage in Ghana

Summary

This project will protect 150 vulnerable children in Ghana-especially girls-from early and forced marriage through education, community engagement, and direct support. Early marriage limits a child's future, interrupts education, and exposes them to health and social risks. This project will empower children and their families with knowledge, support systems, and practical alternatives to ensure every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive.

Challenge

Early marriage remains a challenge in some communities due to poverty, cultural practices, and limited access to education. Many children-especially girls-are married before the age of 18, which disrupts their schooling, increases their vulnerability to abuse, and limits their life opportunities. Without intervention, these children face long-term social and economic disadvantages.

Solution

This project will identify and support 150 at-risk children through awareness campaigns, school-based education, and community dialogues. It will engage parents, traditional leaders, and community members to shift attitudes and promote the importance of education. The project will also provide support such as school materials and mentorship to help children remain in school and avoid early marriage.

Long-Term Impact

The project will reduce the incidence of early marriage in targeted communities and improve school retention for girls. It will empower children with knowledge and confidence to make informed life choices. Over time, this will lead to healthier families, increased economic opportunities, and stronger, more equitable communities.
