AAI has been working to help San Raymundo II for several years.  We have brought in health education, supplied equipment for the First Aid team, donated nutritious meals, toys, sports equipment for the children and more.  Last but not least, we've supported the improvement of sanitation in this village. We have established a recycling program, donated toilets, and supported local  residents.

Due to the kind generosity of GlobalGiving donors, sanitation goals for San Raymundo have been realized!  Kudos and thank you so very much. Please know your kind donations have been well used and most appreciated by the residents of San Raymundo II.  Gracias for your participation.

New toilets!
New toilets!

Because of our amazing efforts making toilets available to the people of San Raymundo II, the municipality has started building the sewer system!!!!!  In order to utilize that system, the toilets are temporariy in storage awaiting the day (in the hopefully near future) when they can be hooked up to that sewer system and truly bring sanitation to the community!

Your continued donations will provide even more sinks, toilets and actual bathrooms for the families in San Raymundo II.  It's an amazing transtition from where they were -- pooping in a bag-- when we started this project.

Muchas Gracias and much appreciation for your past...and continuing donations!

Brian O'Riley visited our project in San Raymundo II in late November. As soon as he landed in Guayaquil, he was whisked away to judge the first San Raymundo II  Baking Contest.  He also was able to participate in the Senior Activities, Children's fun and a Cancer-Screening clinic.

Brian observed first hand what a difference your generosity has made....as you continue to be an important part of helping this tiny, very poor barrio to slowly become a viable community.   Gracias!

Dodie Schadlich, our in-country coordinator, is an important part of helping San Raymundo II realize their dream of becoming a vibrant little town.  She has been instrumental in spear-heading the sanitation project, the first aid project and will soon add building more houses.  She also introduces fun project like the baking competition and organizes senior activities.  In the spirit of the Season, she is shown celebrating with the people she is helping us help!

All of us working together is making a HUGE difference and we thank you for your continued support!

A new red toilet!
A new red toilet!

Due to your continuing generosity, 24 toilets have been installed for  the residents of San Raymundo II.   Thirty-five more toilets are needed for this project to be completed and make SRII a safer, cleaner and happier place to live.

FV, a bathroom manufacturer has kindly donated some toilets and sinks!  We must buy our plumbing connections from this company and need additional funds for that...and for installation.  We so appreciate your kindness to date and hope we can count on your continuing support!

It's interesting how raising the moral of the community with better sanitaion has created so many other improvements:  Businesses beginning and first aid workers trained to name a few.

With your support, we will continue to supply toilets to these deserving people as soon as we can.  Muchas Muchas Gracias!

You have made a HUGE difference in the lives of those struggling to create a community in Ecuador!

Imagine the joy of actually sitting on a toilet after a lifetime of squatting on the ground or pooping in a plastic bag!  The happy experience is now a reality for 16 households in San Raymudo II

A recent visit to the village by Dodie Schadlich revealed “humble, dirt floor homes” that now appeared “tidier, bright and fresher. The faint smell of urine that had been in some homes, now gone.  The next five toilets are scheduled to be installed soon. Ecuador is once again experiencing a total lockdown on weekends and a partial one during the week.  Your ongoing support of this project is greatly

The faint smell of urine that had been in some homes, now gone.  The next five toilets are scheduled to be installed soon. Ecuador is once again experiencing a total lockdown on weekends and a partial one during the week.  Your ongoing support of this project is greatly needed and truly appreciated.

Let’s take a look at what happened in March:

  • The final project of the AAI/ISAWellness training was completed and installed  March 12.  This is our first community art project  –  designed by Janice Wilcox and implemented with the help of Marily Cassar.  Children from San Raymundo 11 added their thumbprint to each stone to complete this special community project. Appropriately titled “Growth and Hope, this beautiful work of art now welcomes all to the SRII Community Center.
  • AAI donated funds to create a first-aid station in the Community Center and buy supplies. We also helped supply the first aid classes that have just begun.  They offer 30+ participant comprehensive training that includes outdoor rescues!  Graduates of the First Aid class will be on-call to man the first aid station when the need arises.  This will save lives in this small community. Bravo to you for your generosity.  See video below for first training,
  • TEN toilets are being installed as the first phase of Bringing Sanitation!  It’s one small step to help these wonderful people have a better choice than “pooping in a bag!!  The installation of the first toilet began on March 28.  This is an on-going project and one that will give a healthier, more hygienic life to the villagers.

New trashcans for the village
New trashcans for the village

Lots of great progress is happening in the new village of San Raymundo, Ecuador.

Our donations are helping BUILD A VILLAGE!  Thanks to generous donations from Airline Ambassadors "Angels", through our virtual mission,  a  first aid station is being built in the Community Hall and the Nurses Health Training class is funded and scheduled to begin on March 1.   Supported by ISA, we provided a Wellness training and food distribution. The community is still benefitting from that training ...especially from our special project:  The Honorable trashcans have been distributed throughout the village to be utilized by all (and laughed at by Miss Kate and Miss Doodie!)

The Santa Elena municipality has promised to run sewer lines to the village which is GREAT news.  Although they have promised to do so by June, there is no guarantee how soon this project will actually start.  So the village will begin by building temporary holes that will easily attach to the sewer system when it is available.  This is progress that can not happen without your support.

Continued donations are greatly needed to continue this effort.

And speaking of effort, this video is a great illustration of how the people of San Raymundo approach their "work".  Here they are building the first aid station.  I look forward to seeing  them enjoy building the sanitation system....which will make life healthier for all residents!  Gracias for your continued support!
