Proper Sanitation for Village in Coastal Ecuador

You have made a HUGE difference in the lives of those struggling to create a community in Ecuador!

Imagine the joy of actually sitting on a toilet after a lifetime of squatting on the ground or pooping in a plastic bag!  The happy experience is now a reality for 16 households in San Raymudo II

A recent visit to the village by Dodie Schadlich revealed “humble, dirt floor homes” that now appeared “tidier, bright and fresher. The faint smell of urine that had been in some homes, now gone.  The next five toilets are scheduled to be installed soon. Let’s take a look at what happened in March:

• The final project of the AAI/ISAWellness training was completed and installed  March 12.  This is our first community art project  –  designed by Janice Wilcox and implemented with the help of Marily Cassar.  Children from San Raymundo 11 added their thumbprint to each stone to complete this special community project. Appropriately titled “Growth and Hope, this beautiful work of art now welcomes all to the SRII Community Center.

• AAI donated funds to create a first-aid station in the Community Center and buy supplies. We also helped supply the first aid classes that have just begun.  They offer 30+ participant comprehensive training that includes outdoor rescues!  Graduates of the First Aid class will be on-call to man the first aid station when the need arises.  This will save lives in this small community. • TEN toilets are being installed as the first phase of Bringing Sanitation!  It’s one small step to help these wonderful people have a better choice than “pooping in a bag!!  The installation of the first toilet began on March 28.  This is an on-going project and one that will give a healthier, more hygienic life to the villagers.
