Quality of menstruation protection
By Herve Millet | Founder
Awareness meeting
Many girls / women in Burkina Faso do not have fund to buy protection when they have their menstruations. They will use rags or stay at home.
Unfortunatly for those who have cash to buy a protection, the quality of those is very poor. They are coming from China and contain recycled carton which has poor absorbtion. Women can get infection from them. Some of them even have a mint smell.
A pack of protection costs 0,84 US$ good for one month in average. This is 10US$ per year.
The alternative is a washable protection kit which costs 15US$ but can last more than 3 years if well maintain.
Specially in rural area, women / girls do not have this kind of money available.
Thanks to spread the word about this project so that we can reach our goal of 2.000 girls / women with a proper protection.
Thank you.

Lack of awareness over menstruation
By Herve Millet | Founder
Girls after awareness meeting
In 2023 we have been providing over 12.000 kits of washable protection for menstruation following the model of the association Days for Girls.
However, a major problem in Burkina is the lack of awareness of the girls over menstruation. Most of the time they are surprised by what is happening to them and do not have somebody to talk about it.
This creates fear and often shame to many girls. Menstruation is still a taboo for many families. Mother do not talk about it with their daughter. Even in primary school no teachers dare to give information to the pupils.
I was told that the lectures in 3rd year secondary school which has the most attention from the students is in biology class when the subject is reproduction. This is too late for many girls.
We have been busy informing girls in primary schools and some private secondary schools have been calling on us to make our presentation. This presentation has been developed by Days for Girls.
Our objective for 2024 is to provide more than 12.000 kits and inform around 1.000 girls about menstruation.

Protection menstruation kits for displaced women
By Herve Millet | Founder
Girls from Tolotama
The villagers of 2 of our villages have been displaced by terrorists about 9 months ago.
A lot of those villagers took refuge in Tolotama another village close to the city of Biobo Dioulasso. The village doubled its population with this influx. We have tried to help them by providing them in various ways.
We have been able to drill a water well in this village, distribute some food, help them to get tents from the UNHCR. We also helped the school with books.
On the hygiene side we are building some family latrines and for the women / girls we have made some awareness meetings on menstruation with distribution of 350 washable protection kits.
The meetings and the distribution were including the women / girls of Tolotama.
Those meetings really help the women / girls to understand more of their body and the kits helped them to be more secure.
Thank you for your support.
