Dear Beloved Partners,
I trust this update finds you in good health and high spirits. My family and I are grateful to report good health, and our daughter is eagerly looking forward to her new journey from Kindergarten to Grade 1! We deeply appreciate your continued prayers and generosity, which have been foundational to the success of our ministry.
Regrettably, Kenya is currently grappling with severe weather conditions that have wreaked havoc across much of the nation. Heavy rainfall has impacted 38 of the 47 counties, constituting about 80% of the country, resulting in widespread flooding, landslides, and a distressing rise in causalities. The imminent Tropical Cyclone HIDAYA threatens to exacerbate these conditions, particularly along the coastal regions.
The United Nations office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that as of May 3rd, the disaster has claimed at least 210 lives, with 164 individuals injured and 72 missing. Moreover, over 205, 000 people have been directly affected, with nearly 195, 000 displaced from their homes.
Our own ministry has not been spared; the floodwaters have inundated our training grounds in Kibera community, particularly at Mbagathi Road Primary School (MRPS), severely disrupting our scheduled activities. The surrounding slums areas, particularly vulnerable due to poor infrastructure, have suffered extensive damage, leading to significant displacement. In response, the Kenyan government has indefinitely postponed the reopening of schools nationwide.
Amid these challenges, the Kibera community, home to many of SAA’s beneficiaries, has faced about three weeks without electricity, further complicating our efforts to maintain contact and provide support.
In these trying times, we seek your intensified prayers for the afflicted and support as we navigate the path to recovery. Apostle Paul reminds us in the New International Version, 2011, Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” which reassures us of our resilience and capacity to overcome adversity through faith.
WAY FORWARD FOR SAA
PRAYER REQUEST
Thank you for your prayers, love and support!
