Appreciation for ongoing support!

Dear Supporters,

Your commitment to conservation continues to make a profound difference in our fight against poaching in the rare sand forest and surrounding ecosystems of Zululand. We are especially grateful for a recent gift that enabled us to purchase another outdoor security camera—an invaluable tool in safeguarding wildlife.

With your help, we are protecting vulnerable species and strengthening community resilience against this ongoing threat.

Current Challenges: Poaching remains a serious threat to animals such as nyala, zebra, wildebeest, red duiker,  suni, mongoose, and so many other species, including birds that together form the protected biodiversity in our forest. Anything, even birds, can be targeted for bushmeat or illegal trade. The destruction caused by snares not only kills animals but also undermines decades of rewilding and conservation work. Rising economic pressures in rural communities increase the temptation to poach, making our outreach and upliftment programs more vital than ever.

Our Response

  • Patrols & Monitoring: Rangers conduct day and night patrols, checking for footprints, removing snares, and monitoring wildlife movements.

  • Awareness & Education: Youth and families are engaged through cultural programs—such as the Young Zulu Dancers—which link pride in heritage with conservation values.

  • Community Upliftment: Food parcels and employment opportunities help reduce reliance on poaching as a source of income.

  • Partnerships: Collaboration with local authorities, neighbors, and conservation networks strengthens enforcement and ensures rapid response to incidents.

Impact

  • Several snares were discovered and removed this quarter, directly saving animal lives.

  • Our night guard bravely interrupted potential poachers, preventing harm to wildlife.

  • Wildlife sightings—including nyala, zebra, wildebeest, and diverse bird species—remain strong. Skittish animal behavior often alerts us to danger, reminding us how vital vigilance is in the wild.

Thank you. Your support saves animals’ lives and preserves a living heritage. Every gift helps us expand patrols, provide education, and sustain the balance of this fragile ecosystem. Together, we are proving that your generosity makes a real difference.

With gratitude,

Janet Cuthbertson
