A team of 8 from Portland, Oregon traveled to rural northeastern Uganda January 24 to work on several projects with a Ugandan NGO. The first thing we got to do was to give away 63 goats that we had raised money for through our Serve Uganda Global Giving campaign. The pregnant goats were given to deserving widows, orphans or handicapped recipents as identifed by their tribal leaders. It was a great day of clebration in the village. The whole village came, even ones that were not receiving a goat. There was a ceremony where local govenment officials spoke and thanked Serve Uganda and the local NGO for helping these dear people.
The agreement is that the receipient cannot eat the goat. They can only sell or trade. The hope is that they will keep the goat, raise the babies and over time build up a herd that they can us for income. This is one of the most successful programs we have seen in Uganda. It truly changes lives. It helps children go to school, build a home, pay medical bills.
This turly is a life changing investment. Thanks to all who gave to this project. It would not have been possible without you. You are a life giver.
