Hello evernoye,

How are you? We hope you are keeping yourselves safe and sane.

Few years ago, you supported our efforts with the project: Power Lunch! We accomplished the goal and thanks to your support, all children continue to grow anaemia-free in Cuncani.

Today, we are reaching you out to ask you for your support on our current project.

Please, take a moment to read our message below

Thanks to very generous donors, we have been able to provide support to our community partners in the Andes of Cusco. Thanks to them, we provide meals to all the community (close to 400 inhabitants) between 2 and 3 times per weeksince the beginning of January. We are very grateful for this support, as, without it, they would be eating only potatotes on a daily basis.

The situation in Peru is currently more complicated. Between the suffering that Covid-19 is generating and the results of the first round of elections, we are afraid to say, we, Peruvians, are very overwhelmed. If you want to read more news about it, please take a look to our last newsletter.

After thousands of meals provided, we are still working hard on providing food for our community partners as their situation is very precarious and it does not seem to find an end to it anytime soon. You can read more about the situatione, in this newsletter.

Some of you might have received your vaccine and we are happy for you! We just want to ask you to not forget about those people who are struglling a lot due to the virus and its effects. Please, show and extra dose of compassion for them and if you can, keep supporting our efforts and share them among your friends and family.

If you want to make a donation, please click HERE.

We know you have heard of ”We are one” many times, and for now, we want to ask you to remember this. We truly believe in the interdependence of our world and that it depends only on us to overcome this pandemic.

Thank you for your support.

Please, follow this link so you can learn more about it!

Good night, everyone!

It's been so long since we sent our last report. We apologize for this!

From August we started working in another city to support 50 families to improve their living conditions by working together to design a sanitation system for them! It's been very interesting and rewarding. The new community is called Playa Blanca and it is located in Piura (northern region of Peru!). In these months, we are traveling 1302 miles from Cusco to Piura and 1302 to go back to accomplish our goals. Nothing makes us happy!

No matter the distance, we have been able to continue with our commitment in Cuncani and that makes us happy and proud. As it was included in this project, besides providing daily nutritious lunches, we wanted to provide education workshops to the children of the school.

We reflected a lot about how to design them. How we could make them interesting, fun and an opportunity to learn about health issues? After a lot of considerations, we thought: what if we implement it within a context in which they learn while they have fun? with a  LOT of excitement we decided to design it inside a SOCCER field. How this sound?!

Thanks to the support of one more geneours donor, we were able to:

- Play soccer

- Implement a soccer field inside the classroom

- Provide hygiene education and tools for the children to plant and take care of vegetables within the school greenhouse!

It has been amazing!

We have been able to do 3 workshops and we will do the last one of the year within a coupe of weeks.

Thank you so much for your help! We couldn't have done this without your help! And we hope you can keep supporting our efforts in the future.

Have a lovely night, everyone!

Nexos Comunitarios team.

And project begins!

By Andrew Wang

“Kenjiiiii, Andressss!!!”, all the children screamed as they ran to greet Kenji and I at the Cuncani primary school on that early Monday morning of April 16, 2018

It had been a long journey to finally get Power Lunch 2018 running this yearFor months, the NC team were working hard on promotion and fundraising in order to initiate the Power Lunch program to provide lunches 5 days a week every week. Through constant vlogging, musical covers, artistic performances, and international requests, we slowly got the word out and gained support. But perhaps the most difficult event to raise money was the 137km trek that Kenji and I embarked on. This trek included a 37km hike from Urubamba to Cuncani, followed by a 100km bicycle ride back from Cuncani to Urubamba. Each journey taking roughly 13 hours. Due to the nature of the challenge with Cuncani residing at roughly 4000 meters above sea level, I was required to go through training 3 weeks in advanced to adjust to the difficulties with altitude and to build endurance by going on many hikes. Though I improved tremendously from where I started, I was still unprepared for the challenges that laid ahead. 3 hours into the hike I had sprained my knee and used a make shift stick to assist me through the rest of the trek. Furthermore, there were issues with both bicycles on the return that made the journey evermore gruesome. However, no matter how tough it was, we fought through the pain and fatigue because we were doing this for the children and we eventually completed the challenge.

April 16th was the first official day of delivering the Power Lunch program of 2018. It was difficult to wake up at 5:00 am that morning to go on a three-and-a-half-hour drive to Cuncani, but there was also an overwhelming excitement that the day has finally come. When we finally arrived in Cuncani that Monday morning being met by the exuberant smiles from all the children, I realized that all of our efforts were completely worth it.
