These children are some of many hundreds of AIDS Orphans that likulezi has helped over the past 30 years to be enabled to go to primary school by supporting their Guardian with household costs, and business loans. With the advent of retroviral drugs for HIV infection Likulezi began to use resources to extend the education from primary into Secondary and from there to get some as far as 3rd level! this has been a great boost to this poor community as Education is their way out of Poverty .
From the initiation of our Orphan Programme more than 25 years ago, The Likulezi Project had progressed from supporting families who took in orphans so that the orphans could attend Primary school to supporting them at secondary school and some even to 3rd level. However with the escalating cost of living and subsequently the rise in school fees we are finding it very difficult to keep these children in education. Our main challenge is : To prevent the curtailment of education of these children.
By prioritizing The Orphan Programme and by focusing the resources that we have now specifically on this programme and on the Library ( which houses the school curriculum books), these children will not be forced out of education. By directing any new funds into this programme Likulezi would continue to educate and support this poor community.
By supporting this community Likulezi would be fulfilling its mission statement "Facilitating the community to fulfil its potential"
