This project will help us provide baseball and softball equipment to those affected by Hurricane Ida. Extensive damage has been reported along the East Coast, and recovery efforts are now underway. Our goal is to ensure this disaster does not keep kids off the diamond in 2022.
After a year of struggling with the affects of COVID-19, communities on the East Coast were finally getting back to normal life. Mother nature had other plans however, as Hurricane Ida wreaked havoc along the entire coast in late August. From Louisiana to New York, millions lost power, cherished belongings, and in some cases their life. Winds over 150mph and severe rain has caused an estimated $95 billion in damage. Baseball and softball leagues unfortunately did not escape this devastation.
Working closely with our partners in the region, we are currently evaluating the ongoing relief efforts. Assessing the damage could take months, but it is our goal to ensure that 2022 youth baseball and softball seasons are not delayed. Right now, it is a critical time for us as we need to acquire equipment to distribute in these regions. COVID-19 has made this increasingly difficult due to supply chain issues, so it is important to for us to order equipment now to meet our Spring of 2022 goal.
Children in these areas now have lives filled with uncertainty. They have been displaced from their homes and lost much of what they love. This has caused youth sports to be somewhat forgotten as there are much larger issues at hand in these regions. There is little doubt that this hurricane has caused leagues to lose much, if not all their available equipment. We are committed to not allow this to cause children to miss out on the benefits of playing ball in their youth.
