Even though PIFBS was happy to put another difficult year behind us, we knew that our work was far from over in terms of helping baseball and softball programs return to play in 2022. Thus far, we have already provided much needed equipment to over 100 programs this year. With seasons starting soon, we are working tirelessly to ensure all groups have the gear they need to keep kids on the diamond. Amongst these grantees, are those that have been affected by natural disasters including Hurricane Ida. Without the help of donors like you, we would not be able to provide these kids in affected communities the opportunity to play ball.
Youth sports are still not a priority in many areas affected by Hurricane Ida, because there are far more important issues for families to address. Even though we have already supported groups in affected states such as Louisiana and Mississippi, we are still working with our partners in the area to identify the groups most in need. When these communities are ready to bring baseball and softball back, we will most definitely be there to support. It is important for us now to continue acquiring the equipment we anticipate these regions needing in the coming months. This will allow us to quickly respond with the proper gear when groups are ready to resume youth baseball and softball.
Over the next few months, we hope to be able to increase our efforts in these regions. It is our goal to ensure that no child is unable to play this beautiful game in 2022 due to the inability to access equipment. Kids rely on these sports as an escape from the difficulties they face in their daily lives. Therefore, we are once again asking for your support so we can continue providing these youth a sense of normalcy.
