Dear Wonderful Supporters:
Sometimes it's wonderful to be in the thick of life's daily grind. If you walked into La Escuelita (the Little School) today, you'd see our work in action, in the nitty-gritty, so to speak. If you were early enough, you'd see children accompanied by their caregivers making their way through the front door: pushed in wheelchairs, or swinging their leg braces on crutches, or being carried in their mother's arms.
To the left, you see children receiving therapies of all sorts: stretching twisted leg and back muscles to develop flexibility on rubber balls, lifting light weights to strengthen developing arm muscles, and everyone's favorite: massage! You'd hear a variety of sounds coming from the room where children receive speech therapy, strengthening jaw muscles to prevent drooling, singing to help formerly mute children develop confidence in speaking.
Continuing down the hall, you'd see a larger room used for special education, with a variety of puzzles, art supplies, books and educational toys. Off to the right, you'd see a cozy kitchen area, where moms can learn how to create nutritious meals for a child that can only process liquids or soft foods.
Everywhere you looked, you'd see your financial support in action. Seven days a week - the Rosa Vera Fund is there. We are indeed in middle of the daily grind of our work.........and as a supporter, we hope you feel good about that.
It is not easy to find support for uneducated families living in poverty. It takes someone with compassion, of course, but also vision - to see possibilities in all people, regardless of their circumstances. It takes someone with creativity - to see what might be possible, and the courage to take a chance.
As our supporter, you have those qualities, as well as true generosity! Thank you for taking a chance in the Rosa Vera Fund's efforts to bring lasting change to the lives of impoverished families in Bolivia. Our next medical trip will be in July, 2019 - we invite you (or someone interested in furthering their Spanish or thinking of a career in medicine) to join us!
With Kind Regards,
Karen Melk, Chair
