Dear Supporters of the Rosa Vera Fund,
Recently, we received pictures of our project in action - community health workers visiting children in their homes, children running as best they can to get to La Escuelita for physical / speech therapy sessions, and nurses advising parents how best to feed severely compromised children, without the benefit of electricity or refrigeration.
Our update this quarter is that, in spite of numerous challenges, the Rosa Vera Fund is running well! La Escuelita - our school/therapy center, is open each day to provide physical and speech therapy sessions to children anxious to speak, be understood, and gain independence. The physical therapy equipment, especially the large rubber stretching ball and the stairs, are showing signs of wear - this is welcomed, as we want the equipment to be used as much as possible! One project that has been temporarily suspended is our nutrition program - where children (and their siblings) can receive a warm, nourishing meal when they come to La Escuelita for their appointments. Discussions are underway to find an effective, more sustainable way to re-implement this program. (We welcome your ideas!)
Overall, it is clear that the RVF works: children are walking more, learning more, using their hands to gain independence, and avoiding malnutrition. Devoted but exhausted parents and caregivers are finding a little time of respite and moral support. In short, the project update this quarter is that all is going well - your financial support is being used effectively and compassionately to strategically improve the lives of the children we care for.
