A Solution That Can Make a Difference to End Period Poverty

By Camilla Lengendre | Director

Thanks to the support of our GlobalGiving donors, we are continuing our work towards ending period poverty for women who need it most - one woman, one cup and one conversation at a time.

Period poverty remains a serious barrier to education, health, dignity and equal opportunities. Too many women lack access to safe, reliable menstrual products and the knowledge they need to manage their periods with confidence.

This year, your donations of $125.64 will directly support five women with a reusable LOOP menstrual cup, menstrual health and SRHR training, and a reusable storage bag produced by women.

We work with HEVEA, a Danish company committed to creating sustainable alternatives to conventional plastic products. Their LOOP menstrual cups are made from 100% natural rubber, a renewable and biodegradable material. Designed to be reusable for years, the cups provide a long-term alternative to disposable menstrual products while helping reduce both the financial and environmental burden of menstruation.

But a menstrual product alone is not enough. Each woman also receives menstrual health and SRHR education, creating a safe space to ask questions, challenge misconceptions and build confidence around menstruation and their bodies. Women receiving these LOOP cups attend physical safe spaces, where knowledge about using the product is shared by our trusted partner, 100% for the Children Kenya. Going forward, the LOOP cups will focus more on women, as they tend to be more receptive and comfortable discussing menstruation and SRHR openly compared to school girls. This can help us address menstrual health with fewer taboos and create a more open environment for learning and support.

The reusable storage bags are produced by women, helping connect menstrual health with opportunities for women and local communities.

Your donation therefore goes beyond providing a menstrual cup. It gives women a sustainable menstrual product, essential knowledge and the confidence to manage their periods safely and with dignity.

While this year's donations will directly reach five women, the need remains great. We continue to work towards reaching more women facing period poverty and creating lasting change through sustainable products, education and community support.

Thank you for helping us make period poverty one less barrier standing in the way of women' education, health and future opportunities.
