A group of PeaceJam participants march peacefully
It is with a heavy heart that we write to you about new information regarding the PeaceJam Activities in Timor-Leste.
After considering the global pandemic that is COVID-19, Ba Futuru has decided to postpone PeaceJam activities for the time being. While Timor-Leste doesn't have any current active cases of COVID-19, we have decided to be safe and not move forward with this year's activities. This is due to the fact that the conference and curriculum sessions would bring hundreds of youth together from around the country to one spot. This poses a big risk for transmission of COVID-19.
Ba Futuru is hoping that PeaceJam activities can resume next year - with some exciting new changes!
Thank you so much for all of your support - you have helped inspire Youth ChangeMakers in Timor-Leste!
We hope that you and your family are staying safe in these times of COVID-19.

Youth from Across Timor Leste make videos
Over the past two months, youth particpants from last year's PeaceJam conference have been active in sharing information about COVID-19 throughout their communities.
Over 100 youth were given the opportunity to participate in a 4-week video-making competition. Each week, youth were tasked with creating videos around one of four themes (Hand-washing, Physical Distance, Maintaining a Healthy Life-Style, and How one can Help their Community). Twenty youth uploaded videos of themselves and their peers. These videos had over 4,000 views, and 150 shares.
During the hand-washing videos, youth made Tippy - Taps (or, hand-washing stations). After making these stations in their communities, neighbors were interested in learning how to make their own. So youth helped create hand-washing stations throughout their community.

Conference Sparks Youth Screening Films
By Brandy Roberts | Portfolio Manager
On November 9th and 10th, over 250 youth came together for the PeaceJam conference, where they participated in workshops, group discussions, service learning activities, and listened to inspiring talks from Nobel Peace Prize Laureate José Ramos-Horta, and Naldo Rei, child resistance fighter. On the first day, students participated in workshops with themes ranging from becoming environmental activists and using trash for promotion materials, to how to organize a large-scale event (such as PRIDE), and LGBTQI+ rights.
The second day, students used the knowledge and skills gained from the workshops in the service learning activities, where students organized a march against sexual harassment, painted a mural for peace, and cleaned up trash along the road. Since the conference, students were mobilized to share films and hold discussions in their respective communities 15 PeaceJam participants showed the film in 9 communities to 398 community members.
