This project will empower hundreds of young Timorese with the knowledge and skills to become leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities, and the world.
Timor-Leste has the 15th youngest population in the world. Consequently, young people have the potential to play an extremely important role in the country's achievement of its future development aspirations but do not currently have a voice. Inadequate investments in education and training have resulted in a large pool of unemployed youth who feel unprepared for and lack the skills required to access the very limited employment opportunities.
It is in this context that Ba Futuru will work collaboratively with PeaceJam and local partners the Rotarac Club of Dili and Peace Corps to empower young people with knowledge and skills to become young leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities, and the world. Ba Futuru has been partnering with PeaceJam for several years, and has been ramping up our efforts to engage youth in year-round programming to enhance the leadership and social change capacity of young people.
With the tools provided by PeaceJam, young people in Timor-Leste will become empowered adept drivers of social change able to create measurable progress on the most pressing issues facing Timor-Leste. 250 young people will develop skills for leading social movements to create peaceful, justice, inclusive and resilient communities; 50 youth mentors will have additional skills in undertaking peer education; and the 22 Youth Project Committee members will gain leadership skills.
