OUR JOURNEY SINCE LAUNCH
Dear PCAU family and friends,
We are excited to share the progress of our project, which continues to provide crucial support (Educational, health care, psychosocial, and spiritual support) to child caregivers in Uganda. Since 2012, the Palliative Care Association of Uganda has supported 94 child careivers and their families. Among these children, the Road to Hope (RTH) has served as a lifeline a total of 88 children and their families, while 6 are being supported by your generous contributions to our project. Throughout the journey we have witnessed remarkable success stories, with graduates achieving diverse professions such as medical doctors (1), community workers (1), plumbers, motor vehicle mechanics, hairdressers, fashion designers, and more.
This year, 83 child caregivers are being supported by the program, and 6 of these children have directly benefited from educational support funded by your generous donations. One of these children is now in her final year of a nursing course, thanks to your support. Since the launch of this project on GlobalGiving, with your donations, we were able to also provide shelter to a family in 2022 when their house was destroyed by fire. Additionally, funds from this initiative have facilitated the support of 30 children in Southwestern Uganda through the SHiNE Child Program, enabling access to care and treatment at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
Your donations have been instrumental in addressing the various needs of children, prompting us to launch a separate project specifically for the SHiNE Child Program https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/shine-child-program/. This new initiative will focus solely on supporting children with life-limiting illnesses to access care and treatment, while our original project continues to provide psychosocial support and basic necessities to child-headed families, as well as educational assistance to children leading these underprivileged households.
Despite the support provided, the burden of life-limiting illnesses has continued to grow, resulting in an increasing number of child-headed families. Therefore, we humbly request your ongoing support for this project to ensure we can reach every family and child in need.
