During the kickoff event of PBSP's Masustansyang Pagbubuntis, Masiglang Kamusmusan (MaMa) in three pilot sites, all 90 pregnant mothers enrolled in the program were provided with a nutrition education session to underscore the importance of proper nutrition during a child's first 1000 days of life. In the said session, a simple recipe was demonstrated in a cooking show format, spearheaded by PBSP and nutrition officers of the three local government units.
The nutrition edication session is supplemented with the distribution of copies of Unilever Philippines' Lutong Nanay Nutri-budget Journal. The recipe books were the main resource used during the nutrition education session, which emphasized that meals consumed by the family can be nutritious, affordable, and delicious (masustansya, mura, at masarap).
MaMa is one of the three flagship programs under PBSP's NextGen Initiatives that seeks to address malnutrition and stunting by providing maternal healthcare support to mothers and their children during the latter's First 1000 Days (F1KD) of life. Piloted in three sites, PBSP has partnered with the local governments of Mabuhay in Zamboanga Sibugay, Arteche in Eastern Samar, and Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental to support the next generation through effective maternal care and early childhood nutrition.
