Pathway to success: scholarships to needy students

During the three-month period from October 1 to December 31, we continued providing scholarship support to 23 high school students, including 18 returning students and 5 new recipients. Our scholarships cover full tuition, transportation, school supplies, and internships. Recipients are selected based on financial need and academic performance, with the aim of empowering them to achieve their educational goals and transform their lives.

Inspiring Student Stories:

• Student 1 (17 years old): After losing both of his parents, this student lives alone in a government-provided house. His older siblings left to find work, leaving him to fend for himself. He survived on one meal a day, provided at school, and relied on the support of teachers and fellow students for school materials. Despite these challenges, his determination never faltered. He became the top student in his class, passed the Grade 9 national examination, and earned a spot at a school of excellence. Now in Grade 10, he is studying Automobile Technology, setting the stage for a brighter future.

• Student 2 (22 years old): As the oldest child, this student assumed the role of head of his household. He lives with his mother and four siblings in a rented house. His father, an alcoholic, sold all their land to fund his addiction, often becoming violent when drunk. This forced the family to move several times. Despite the instability, he remained focused on his studies. He passed the Grade 9 national examination with an excellent score and secured a place at a school of excellence. Now in Grade 10, studying Wood Technology, he continues to pursue his dreams of a better future.

During the period from June 1 to September 30, 2024, we continued our sponsorship of the existing 25 scholarship recipients, seven of whom successfully graduated. In addition, we provided scholarships to five new students from the Musha community, bringing the total number of students in our program to 23. These scholarships cover full tuition, transportation, school supplies, and provide spending money, as well as year-long tutoring for each student.

These new scholarship recipients were selected based on their dedication to their studies, their participation in the Saturday tutoring program, and their financial needs. Below are the brief stories of some of the new scholarship students. For confidentiality purposes, the names have been omitted.

One of the new scholarship recipients is a 19-year-old girl who lives in Musha with her single mother and three younger siblings. Her mother works as a casual laborer, earning barely enough to provide for basic needs. Despite these hardships, the girl has shown dedication to her studies, attending the Saturday tutoring sessions regularly and excelling in her classes. The scholarship enables her to continue her education and pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.

Another new recipient is an 18-year-old boy who lives with his grandparents in a small house in Musha. His parents passed away, leaving his elderly grandparents to care for him. The family struggles to meet daily needs through small-scale farming. He is a bright student passionate about science and dreams of becoming an engineer. The scholarship provides the stability he needs to focus on his studies.

The third recipient is a 19-year-old girl, the eldest of five children in her family. Her father is unemployed due to illness, and her mother works as a cleaner, earning a minimal wage. Despite these challenges, she has consistently excelled in her studies, particularly in mathematics, and hopes to one day become a teacher. The scholarship allows her to continue her education and support her family.

The support we have provided over the past few months has enabled these students to pursue their educational goals and improve their futures. We are excited to see how they continue to grow and succeed, thanks to the opportunities created through the scholarship program.
