Bio-Benin will build a fish pond and train 100 young women and men each year to raise fish organically and earn a living wage. Affordable, freshly farmed fish will provide high quality protein and help relieve food insecurity for 100,000 people who live in and around Natitingou in northern Benin.
The young in northern Benin cannot find jobs. Food insecurity is high and they cannot afford to marry and have families. Most work on the land for very low wages and employment is seasonal. Poor nutrition contributes to a high mortality rate in midlife.
Developing a fish farm on Bio-Benin's organic site and training 100 students a year will provide significant employment for women and men at a living wage. Fish, a highly valued food in Benin, rich in protein and healthy oils, will alleviate food insecurity and improve health for the local population, giving them hope for the future.
Long-term this fish farm will enable 100's of students to support their families and improve the health of all involved.
