Opening Minds through Art

Working with volunteer partners, residents have created beautiful works of art in a variety of mediums.  The Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) program allows 30 residents with varying stages of dementia to express themselves through art.  A highlight of each semester’s OMA Program is the opening of the art exhibit including a dinner for the artists, their family members and volunteers followed by an opportunity to proudly show their loved ones the masterpieces they have created.

The next session will begin on February 19th. A voluntee with the project said, “I love working with my partner on her art projects. She is so proud of the work that she has done in our classes together.”

Your donation to the OMA Program will be used to purchase art supplies for the talented artists.

The OMA (Opening Minds Through Art) artists and volunteers just finished their 11th semester of work. Participants shared their art work with their family members at the artist reception which is a highlight of the program for the artists. The artists are so proud of the work they have done during the program. One artist said, “It puts a good feeling in my heart.”

Volunteers also enjoy the program. “Every time I leave after meeting up with my partner, I feel so lucky to be a small part of his life and hopefully make his day a little better.”

The OMA (Opening Minds Through Art) artists completed their fall semester in December. The highlight of this semester was creating pieces of Rookwood tile. At the opening reception for the exhibit, family and friends of the artists had an opportunity to admire their loved one’s pieces of art. The Rookwood tiles were so amazing and each artist beamed with pride as he/she shared their beautiful artwork with their guests. The spring semester will begin on February 21st. Your donation helps provide supplies for the amazing Cedar Village artists with dementia. The program truly represents Cedar Village’s mission: that aging will be an enriching and fulfilling experience.
