Support Nearly 3,000 Homeless Women in DC

Since November 2015, 172 donations have raised $11,000 and purchased nearly as many meals for homeless and low-income women in Washington, DC. Thank you for your support.

People experience homelessness for all sorts of reasons; lack of affordable housing, medical emergencies, job loss, mental health concerns or the death of a loved one.

Ms. Deborah became homeless in September 2017. At first, she didn’t know of any day programs for women experiencing homelessness and then she heard about Bethany Women’s Center. She explains, “The staff was very helpful in telling me about what they had to offer. The activities that they offer and the classes to take on a daily bases were very good for me. Some of my favorite classes are Power of Positivity, All About me, Artistic Expression, Spiritual Literacy, Where is God in All This, Gaining Gratitude, Arts & Crafts, Puzzles, and Movin & Groovin. Every month there is always something to look forward to. I got clothes, shoes, and a warm coat to get through the winter. I have met a lot of new friends and enjoyed myself. Bethany’s also helped me get my medication back on track and I was able to get my birth certificate, DC ID card, and my Medicare card. All these things were not made available at my residence. In the nine months I’ve been here, I have made a great deal of progress and I am very happy.”

N Street Village and Bethany Women’s Center will be here for Ms. Deborah and every woman experiencing homelessness in DC who comes through our doors looking for a meal, support getting back on their feet and something to look forward to.

Ms. Jean first came to N Street Village in the late 1970’s. She came to the Village seeking safe shelter, a positive atmosphere and a place to wash her clothes. She found more than she expected; a strong recovering community that helped her achieve and maintain a clean and sober life. She achieved permanent housing; though she continues to seek affordable housing that better fits her preferences. For now, she is living clean and sober and stably housed.

She recently returned to N Street Village seeking assistance in getting a personal aide. The staff of Bethany Women’s Center at N Street Village is glad Ms. Jean thought to come back to N Street Village for support as her needs change.
