KKO and NHSD are partnering to combat malnutrition in Ghareebabad and Maskeenabad rural villages of Rawalpindi, where poverty has left 30-45% of families nutritionally vulnerable. Our comprehensive approach includes nutritional assessment of 350 households, food ration distribution to 150 families, supplements for 100 pregnant/breastfeeding women and 150 children, monthly health education sessions, and vocational training in cooking for sustainable income generation.
In Ghareebabad and Maskeenabad, extreme poverty leaves families struggling for daily survival. Over 70% of children are born underweight with nutritional deficiencies, and pregnant/breastfeeding women lack essential nourishment. With limited access to healthcare and consistent food sources, preventable diseases, low immunity, and high infant/maternal mortality rates persist. Children often drop out of school as families cannot meet both educational and nutritional needs
Our solution provides immediate relief through nutritionally balanced food rations for 150 vulnerable families and targeted supplementation for 100 pregnant/breastfeeding women and 150 children under five. We're establishing community-led health committees, conducting monthly educational workshops on nutrition and childcare, organizing bi-monthly medical checkups, and creating a vocational training center focused on cooking skills to generate sustainable income and enhance food security.
Beyond immediate nutritional support, our project creates lasting community resilience through capacity building of local health volunteers, establishment of income-generating opportunities, and advocacy for policy change. By reducing maternal complications and infant mortality, improving children's cognitive development, and breaking the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition, we're building healthier, more productive communities.
