It has become a Thanksgiving tradition to provide the warmth and spirit of the holiday to our cats and dogs.  Sandra, our Shelter Director, helps create a Thanksgiving feast that all our animals enjoy.  The cats and dog enjoy a homemade turkey and rice meal. The spirit of the holiday season reminds us how important it is to reflect and give thanks for those who have helped us this past year.

As a supporter, you play an important role in the success of our shelter.  Whether it’s giving an abandoned animal a second chance, the continued renovation of our shelter, or those every day rescues that seem to lie under the radar, you are right there with us. Our shelter has provided care for over 250 kittens and 53 puppies this past year.

It is only through your generous support and financial contributions that we are able to provide the medical care, housing, food, and other necessities that our staff and our animals rely upon in order for our shelter to function and serve the animals in our care.

We hope that you will think of us during this season of giving and reflection, and ask you to consider donating to our cause.

This journey to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in an ongoing effort that is a lifelong commitment and we're so THANKFUL you've chosen to make such a difference with these animals!  You are truly changing their lives by giving lost, abandoned, and abused animals a brand new chance to have forever.

It's so immeserably helpful, during this season, to have your support and your contribution!

  • It allows us to spay unaltered females to prevent future abandoned kittens and puppies on our streets.
  • It allows us to test and vaccinate mom and babies.
  • It also provides shelter, food, and comfort to them while they await their chance at a forever home!

Your efforts make the change we all hope to see in the lives our our four legged friends.

Your donations, in whatever amount you can give, is essential in continuing to provide that answer!

Thank you, and have a happy holiday season!

It's that time of year again for sweltering summer heat to hit the state. Texas is nortorious for its high, humid temperatures and as we get into the hottest month of the year, August, now is a great time to make sure your pets aren't feeling the heat either!

Unfortunately, Texas has the highest number of pet related deaths from heat stroke!

However, there are so many great ways to ensure our beloved fur friends stay cool during these hot summer months so that they stay safe.

Lots of dogs love water and pools!  Consider a small plastic pool filled with a little water for your fur baby to play in while outside in the backyard.  You'd be surprised how many dogs take to the water and really make a sport out of splashing around in it.  Plus, it ensures your friend has enough hydration if they're out there for any length of time.  Make sure your pet has plenty of shade or cover too if there is a lack of tree coverage in your yard.

For apartment dwellers without yards or nearby dog parks taking your dog for a walk is an ideal way for them to get exercise and work out.  However, those sidewalks can get blistering hot during the day. A good measure of whether your fur friend can walk down a sidewalk or not is to hold the back of your bare hand to the pavement.  If you can't keep it there for 5 minutes it's too hot to walk your pup on the pavement

Plus all their fur can overexert your animal on long afternoon walks when temperatures are at their highest.

Fun treat ideas to cool your dog down after playtime is to freeze beef or chicken broth, water with honey, or even yogurt.  You can add doggie treats to the frozen concoctions.  You can also buy frozen dog ice cream treats too for a tasty flavor filled treat for your pet as well.

Dallas is well-known for having dog lovers take their animals everywhere!  While it can be a nice outing for the dog to get out of the house while owners eat and socialize on patios, it's an entirely different matter when owners leave their dogs in hot cars.  Even on a mild day outside, when temperatures hover around 70 degrees it can reach a sweltering 89 degrees in your car in a matter of 10 minutes.  In 30 minutes it's already 104!!  During the summer 94 degrees is considered "decent" during our heatwave weather.  On a 94 degree day it can reach as hot as 114 degrees in a matter of only 10 minutes!  Even with the windows "cracked" or lower the temperature still reaches unmanagable heat levels intolorable to any animal.  If you can't do it, the animal can't either!

PLEASE DON'T EVER LEAVE AN ANIMAL IN A CAR WITHOUT THE A/C RUNNING!

It's a sure way to put them at a dangerous risk of heat stroke, coma, or death.

As the summer temperatures swell and vault into the typical triple degree heat, have fun with your pets this summer and help keep them cool and hydrated too!

This season our shelter has had the privilege to place many of our animals into forever homes. We've had the opportunity to see many of our adult animals find homes as well and we couldn't be more pleased.

This is all possible because YOU make the difference for them!

With your help, your concern, and your financial support we're able to make sure these animals have a happy, content place to get care like vaccinations, medical attention, spay/neuter, and even their annual turkey and rice Thanksgiving dinner!

Kitten season is in full swing!  Reports of post-pandemic surrenders of animals have made headlines and other kill shelters are reaching out to us to see if we can help ease the burden of their numbers. Summertime is here which also means we're also seeing an upswing in all the volunteers that are able to give of their time to socialize and show off our animals.

We're happy to be able to showcase our dogs at offsite events like PetSmart and are encouraging those who are interested in volunteering at those events to help promote our animals, to please get in touch with the shelter to let them know you'd like to help. We're also flush with kittens and, while that makes for a lot of adoptions at the shelter, there are those who are still a little too young yet to be adopted out.  Some still need bottle feeding, some have mothers and some do not.  This is definitely a pressing need for our shelter to offer the very young the round the clock care they need until they are old enough to stay at the shelter full time.  If there is an opportunity for you to volunteer with our shelter in that capacity it would ease the burden off staff members and dedicated fosters so that we don't have to turn away the smallest and most vulnerable animals because of a lack of helping hands.

As a nonprofit organization, we completely rely on community support. None of our efforts would be possible without the help of donors, volunteers, and supportive community members like you.

Our overall goal is the same: to help as many as we're able to and make them ready to find their forever homes. Part of that is to continue to make this shelter a comfortable place for our animals until that day arrives for them, and for those who are sanctuary animals, a comfortable home. Our staff strives daily to meet the requirements of all of our animals and we often have many things we'd like to see come to fruition as far as meeting the goal of making sure our animals are happy, healthy, and homebound.

Unfortunately, many of these goals have to be put on hold until we can raise the funds we need in order to provide for them in the scope of the vision we have for them. We've been fortunate that goals like getting a new transportation van for our dogs has been realized, and that the Ohana Project has been completed. Most often the need outpaces ability and, being a non-profit requires that ability to be tapered until financial support is given.

There is no understatement in saying that what you give, what you do to support our shelter, and how you provide for these amazing animals is how we see the needs we have and the desire for our goals to be realized are accomplished. It is an ongoing journey whose end goal can always be striven for when you work hand in hand with us. We hope that you will continue to remember us during your summer plans and vacations and will continue to offer your support for our work and our animals who owe so much to the role you play in making sure they have what they need for their stay here in our shelter.
