Here at Newberg Animal Shelter, we have outdoor kennels so our dogs can go outside, use the bathroom, play and simply be able to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Our northside kennels are made up of rock. Over the course of the last few years, it is quite difficult to keep using the northside kennels because the puppies and dogs dig trying to get out and run. We have seen dogs get their heads caught under the gate after they have dug holes. Our puppies have been caught eating the rocks, so as you can see, this is very dangerous for our dogs and puppies. In the end of 2022, we went out for bids on what the costs would be to get concrete poured in our northside kennels. After we received all the bids, we applied for a grant through our local Early Bird Rotary Club and were awarded half of what the total project would cost. We then sent out pleas to the public and our generous board members and volunteers also asked for birthday gifts to be in the form of donations for the Concrete Project through their facebook accounts. The public came through along with our staff, board members and volunteers to make this happen.
Then we realized that it was rainy season here in Oregon, so the concrete company gave us the bad news... which was we would have to wait until the summer when the ground hardened before they could complete the project. Well, here we are in June and I am very happy to report that the concrete will be ready to pour in the next week or so.
Thanks to the generosity of the public, the board members, volunteers and staff, the concrete is ready to be poured! Now all our animals who go out to the northside kennels will be safe and better sanitized moving forward.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this very important project!
