Here at Newberg Animal Shelter, our four legged canine companions have no HVAC heating and cooling system. The floor heat that is provided keeps the floor warm but cannot provide a comfortable living space where they sleep and live. In the summer of 2021, our outdoor temperatures went as high as 113 degrees, so you can only imagine how difficult it was to keep our dogs cool. The staff worked so incredibly hard cooling the dogs by using blocks of ice, swimming pools, hosing the pups down with sprinklers and having fans running non-stop.
In the winter we are not able to keep tiny dogs in the dog kennel area. Small dogs like our little chihuahua's need a central heating system to keep them warm. We sometimes set up kennels in our lobby offices so they stay warm and comfortable.
After many years of hot summers and cold winters for our dogs, we now have secured the funding to complete our HVAC system and include the dog kennel area. Once the system is installed, our canine friends will be cool in the summer and warm in the winter months.
With your support we continue to improve our shelter and the care we are able to provide the animals.
Thank you for your generostiy and kindness.
