Unfortunately, Derick had to take one semester off, as his funds were depleted. However, he used his time to obtain further hands-on experience treating the poor of St. Viane's clinic in Masaka, Uganda. He conducted another HIV/STD testing day with over 150 coming. This life saving clinic will be repeated in August when our mission team visits to help extend it to 2 days. Our team will also distribute educational material about birth control, family planning, and provide checkups for any adult or child who requests one. We will also be carrying over 100# of medical supplies to help stock the shelves, and also buy perscription medications such as antibiotics, dewormers, etc.
Since our clinic is a charity operation, Derick was not able to save any money. His desire to help those who are too poor to go to clinics that require payment for services rendered predicts the kind of doctor he becomes. Derick will never forget his roots, sleeping in the streets, eating from trash bins, and trying to look after his two little brothers until he found his way to Maranatha Center, our children's home. He is dedicated to serve the underprivileged.
We hope to help Derick achieve this dream, knowing that hundreds of people will be saved through his education.
