Stayin' Alive

No Way Out
No Way Out

The UNHCR Repartriation to Burma program has gone nowhere, because there is nowhere to go.

The situation inside Burma continues to break down.  The Military Regime continues to try to force peace, which as we all know needs to be negiotiated in good faith.  In the face of this, most of the Ethnic Groups of Burma are stepping away from the table for the time being.  What will happen next is up to the Government of Burma and its controller the Burmese Army Generals.

Hoping for the best and bracing for the worst.  Now that the rains have stopped we will look for increased activity from the Burmese army such as bringing in more rations and supplies for their soldiers than usual. The dry season is typically when they attack.  This could send many villagers over the border to Thailand just at a time when all the talk is about sending the refugees back in the other direction.  The confusion that remains is real.

Meanwhile in the refugee camps, poverty, addiction and suicide prevail in the face of this seemingly hopeless situation.  But just because something seems hopeless doesn't mean that we should give up.  DARE Network continues its work strongly and bravely in this situation.

We know this all sounds bleak but in fact it is people like you who help us keep going.  So all we ask is that you keep going too.  Pay attention to the situation and help as you can.  Please.
